Quantum Corridor, Purdue Northwest host Defense Industry Day

HAMMOND, Ind.— Quantum Corridor and Purdue University Northwest (PNW) partnered to host government agencies and defense contractors on the PNW campus at the end of August to discuss testbed opportunities on the expanding quantum network.

In all, 15 top defense prime contractors, equipment manufacturers, end-to-end-solution developers, academic researchers, government labs and technology organizations, entrepreneurs and infrastructure providers were in attendance.

A day that started at the Digital Crossroad data center on the shores of Lake Michigan shifted to south to PNW’s Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) for a four-hour session that included presentations on: Purdue’s research ecosystem; the Chicago Quantum Exchange’s mission to drive economic development, workforce preparation and scientific advancement across the Quantum Prairie; quantum applications in defense and aerospace; Northwest Indiana’s strategic position to foster Quantum Supremacy; and specific capabilities of Quantum Corridor’s network.

“The breadth of expertise in the room was an exciting opportunity for real collaboration and solution-based discussion,” said Quantum Corridor President & CTO Ryan Lafler. “From distinguished academics and applied researchers, product developers, quantum networking experts, quantum sensing innovators and quantum computing scientists, we connected the brightest minds in the defense space to begin the conversation of real use cases on our network as we all work toward a safer and more secure future.”

Quantum Corridor, a 12-mile quantum-capable network linking Digital Crossroad to Chicago’s ORD10 Data Center at 350 Cermak, is set to expand to the University of Chicago, Purdue Northwest and the Roberts Impact Lab, which is under development.

“Purdue University Northwest was proud to partner with Quantum Corridor and One Region to bring together world-class researchers, leading defense contractors and regional partners to chart the future of advanced technology,” said Purdue University Northwest Chancellor Chris Holford. “The conversations we convened reflect both the urgency and the opportunity before us: to secure America’s defense innovation pipeline while positioning Northwest Indiana as a critical node in the nation’s quantum and advanced manufacturing ecosystem. This event is a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines our university and our region.”
